In 2016 I went on a personal retreat for a couple days and stayed at The Lighthouse Hotel and Cottages on the LaHave River. I brought a little book with me that I had received from an author I heard speak back in 2011. In fact, I wrote a blog post called, "Just Say No," about that devotional - it was the opener to a conference I went to.
When I had the chance to take a one night break when we were looking at purchasing a building for Souls Harbour in Bridgewater, I decided to make it a spiritual retreat, and I brought this little book to read.
The weather was warm enough to sit outside overlooking the river, even though it was June 1st in Nova Scotia. I had a coffee in hand and the birds were happily chirping around me on this beautiful spring day.
My takeaways from the book were that we need to remmeber to do 3 things when we begin to get overwhelmed and overcommitted:
1. Stop
2. Be Quiet
2. Be Quiet
3. Make A Connection
Mundane and routine aren't always what is needed for a relationship. While they have their place, sometimes we simply need to stop, listen, and in some way, make a connection with the creator.
The book dispells lies we tell ourselves that prevent this from happening, and simplifies the real way we can pursue a relationship with God.
As we head into our busy season at work, and perhaps many of you for your personal lives as well, I recommend this short read to remember to prioritize staying topped up with fuel!
