Praying For Kings

Imagine my surprise when I was flipping through my Halifax Chamber of Commerce Business Voice Magazine to find my name in the report on the Nova Scotia Leadership Prayer Breakfast!

We were asked to script out our prayers. It was a real honour to pray for our leaders. A copy of my prayer is at the bottom of this post.

I call this one, Selfie With Stephen.  We sat together for breakfast!

The Honourable Stephen McNeil, Premier of Nova Scotia)

I met my friend, Deborah, there.  I was able to give her a drive to the bus stop as it was pouring rain!  We tend to meet in unique places: Anonymous Rallies, Prayer Breakfasts, and Souls Harbour RESCUE Mission!

This is the first year that the leadership prayer breakfast supported a local charity: the Open Door Womens Care Centre H.E.Y. program.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for breakfast.  For a morning that has not only been uplifting, but has moved us.  Our hearts go out to women around the globe and in our own city who are being sold into slavery through human trafficking.  They are our invisible neighbours that need protection and rescuing.  Help us to start seeing them.  Make them visible, Lord.   If each of us helps just one person find freedom, Lord, our time here today will be worth it.

We pray for those who risk their lives to protect and rescue our citizens.  Thank you for our strong Police Force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, our Coast Guard, Firefighters and Paramedics.  Thank you for our Canadian Forces.  Protect our Protectors, Father.  Keep them and their families safe from harm as they selflessly serve us each day.

We pray your blessing on those whom You have appointed to govern us:

  • The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada
  • The Honourable Stephen McNeil, Premier of Nova Scotia
  • Leader of the Nova Scotia NDP, Gary Burrill
  • The Honourable Jamie Baillie, MLA and Leader of the Official Opposition
  • His Worship Mayor Mike Savage, of Halifax
  • His Worship, Mayor Bill Mills, of Truro
Grant these men great wisdom, protection and provision as they shape our country, province and cities into places of safety and freedom.  For it is for freedom that You have set us free.  Help these men--our leaders--to stand firm and keep free of entanglements.

I invite you all to pray the Lord’s prayer with me. You all remember it from your school days, don't you?

Our Father who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the Kingdom,
the POWER and the GLORY,
forever and ever, Amen.

Say it with me again... AMEN!
