The Benefits of a Bizcation: How Taking a Business Trip Can Boost Productivity and Creativity

The view from my room at the Westin Nova Scotian

This week our executive team had 3 days of offsite training and meetings. We learned about personal and professional goal setting, then set goals for each of our quarters.

I decided to pay for myself to stay at the hotel where we rented a board room. I’m grateful to the Westin for their excellent hospitality and the great rate they gave me. I was able to take the entire week there for some focussed deep work for both Souls Harbour and me! I called it a bizcation.

In today's fast-paced world, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and work. Sometimes, it's necessary to step away from the routine and take a break in order to recharge and refocus. That's where the concept of a bizcation comes in.

A bizcation, or business vacation, is a trip that combines both business and leisure. It's a chance to take a break from the daily grind and recharge, while also getting some work done.

There are numerous benefits to taking a bizcation. Here are just a few:

  1. Increased productivity: Taking a break from the office can actually boost productivity. By getting out of your usual surroundings and routine, you can come back to work with a fresh perspective and renewed energy.

  2. Improved creativity: Traveling to new places and experiencing new things can stimulate creativity and inspire new ideas.

  3. Enhanced work-life balance: A bizcation allows you to take a break from work without completely disconnecting. You can still get some work done, but you also have the opportunity to relax and enjoy your time off.

  4. Networking opportunities: Business trips often involve meeting with clients or colleagues, which can be a great opportunity to network and build relationships.

So, next time you're feeling maxed out or in need of a break, consider taking a bizcation. It's a great way to boost productivity, improve creativity, enhance work-life balance, and create new networking opportunities.

As the Bible says in Matthew 11:28-29, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

How do you best combine work and leisure?
