New Year, New You: Setting Specific and Achievable Goals

Setting Specific and Achievable Goals: The Key to Success in the New Year

As you set your goals for the new year, it's important to be specific and make sure they are achievable. Vague resolutions like "improve my relationship with my family" or "eat healthier" may seem like good ideas, but they are too general to be truly effective.

Instead of making vague resolutions, set specific and achievable goals. For example, instead of "improve my relationship with my family," set a goal to "have a weekly family dinner." This specific goal is easier to track and measure, and it's also more realistic than a sudden change to, "spend each evening with my entire family at the dinner table" when your family has an intense schedule of work and activities.

It's also important to make sure your goals are achievable. Using the same example, if you have a demanding job and a family to care for, it might not be realistic to set a goal to run a marathon this year. However, that doesn't mean you can't set a goal related to running or fitness. Instead of setting a goal to run a marathon, you could set a goal to train for and complete a 5K race. This goal is still challenging and will require dedication and effort, but it's more achievable given your current circumstances and resources.

By setting specific and achievable goals, you'll be more likely to stay motivated and on track towards achieving your goals. So, as you set your goals for the new year, remember to be specific and make sure they are achievable.

As the Bible says in Philippians 3:13, "No, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race..."
